PRACTICE NURSE
Sister Sarah Murphy
Sarah works at the practice 22
hours per week spread over 4 days.
She is responsible
for running most of the chronic
disease management services (High
Blood Pressure, Angina, Diabetes,
Asthma, COPD, Kidney Chronic
Disease) as well as pill checks,
Cervical smears, HRT checks and
general health promotional advice
including smoking cessation work and
baby immunisations. She also does
the new patient checks and can
assist with other issues such as
where someone may wish to consult a
female about a sensitive health
issue. If doing this it is important
to bear in mind she isn’t trained as
a doctor and as such may need to get
help from one of the doctors but
clearly this would be done in a
sensitive and tactful manner.
Although she is a
nurse and is trained in all routine
treatment room type procedures such
as dressings, ear syringing etc, due
to time pressures she is unable to
routinely offer these services and
instead will direct you to the
treatment room service run by the
district nurse.
Student
Practice Nurses
These are generally fully qualified
nurses who are specialising in
Practice Nursing. They are with us
generally for a six to twelve month
period and undertake all the normal
duties of a practice nurse. Again
they are clearly supervised during
this time and so occasionally the
consultation may take longer than
might typically be expected due to
these checks. These are to ensure
your satisfaction and health so
please bear with us should this be
the case.
